Construction and Demolition Waste Disposal

SKB Environmental provides management services and environmentally secure disposal of Construction and Demolition debris (C&D).

Bomag Compactor

More than a decade before the U.S. EPA adopted standards for C&D waste disposal, SKB constructed Minnesota’s first C&D landfill with a clay liner, leachate collection system, and groundwater monitoring. As a result, SKB has extensive experience with operations that meet Subtitle D requirements – a level of experience unequalled in the industry.

For our clients in the construction and demolition industries, we pledge prompt, cost-effective service and an environmentally sound method of waste disposal. SKB facilities provide the best option for waste generators who are concerned where their waste is disposed and who desire to minimize their environmental risk.

Liner

The liner systems at SKB’s C&D disposal facilities consist of a barrier layer and a drainage / protective layer. The bottom barrier layer prevents pollutants from entering the groundwater. The drainage / protective layer collects leachate. All leachate is collected, tested, and properly disposed of in an approved facility.

SKB also conducts groundwater monitoring to test water quality. These tests provide a method to constantly monitor the ground water entering the facility and its quality leaving the facility, thus providing needed information as to whether a liner system is performing properly. SKB personnel are all certified C&D landfill operators.

Rosmount Scale

A series of inspections ensure that only acceptable waste is deposited in the landfill. First, incoming loads are inspected at the check-in facility. Next, personnel inspect materials as they are unloaded on the working face. Finally, equipment operators inspect loads as they are spread and compacted. Any non-acceptable wastes are refused acceptance and returned to the generator.

A computerized tracking system documents waste origin and placement. SKB issues a ticket for every load disposed at the landfill.

State, County, and City officials conduct site inspections to ensure environmental compliance. SKB compliance record is flawless—we are proud to have never received a violation at any of our facilities in our entire operating history!
